KADE MATTHEW MEYER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Kade Matthew Meyer was a happy and healthy 2nd grader at Madison Elementary, when he tragically died at the age of 7 on September 2, 2010. The Kade Meyer Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to Kade's memory and is intended to honor graduates whose parent(s) is an employee of USD 231. The scholarship will be presented annually through the Class of 2021, Kade's graduation year. Each scholarship recipient is awarded a one-time $1000 minimum scholarship.  Please click here for the scholarship application.  At the end of 1st grade, Kade was given the "COMPASSION AWARD" for his class and after his death his family learned of multiple acts that supported his distinction. Each scholarship applicant was asked to write about one or more specific examples of how they were compassionate towards another Gardner Edgerton High School student(s).

Scholarship eligibility consists of five requirements:
1. GEHS graduating senior
2. Attended GEHS 2 or more years including entire Senior year
3. Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
4. Be in good standing as it relates to discipline and attendance
5. Son or daughter of current USD 231 employee (employment minimum of one year)

2017 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

 

COUNTING THIS YEAR, 27 STUDENTS WILL HAVE RECEIVED A TOTAL OF $90,000 IN SCHOLARSHIP MONEY SINCE 2011! AS KADE WOULD SAY, "THIS IS AWESOME!"

We are pleased to announce that the 2017 scholarship recipients have earned a one-time scholarship of $3000. 

 

2016 Scholarship Winners

 

The first recipient is Aaron VanVleet. Aaron's mother, Angela VanVleet is a Para-educator at Madison Elementary. Aaron plans to attend the University of Kansas and he will major in Pre-Pharmacy.

The second recipient is Anthony Reed. Anthony is the son of Karla Reed. His mother is the Director of Mentoring and Professional Development for USD 231. Anthony will attend K-State and plans to major in Engineering.

The third recipient is Samuel Stranathan. Sam is the son of USD 231 School Superintendent, Pam Stranathan. Sam plans to attend Washburn University and will major in Radiology.

The fourth recipient is Faith Garrie. Faith is the daugher of Shana Garrie. Faith's mother is a Building Aide at Pioneer Ridge Middle School. Faith plans to major in Hospitality Management and will be attending Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL.

The fifth recipient is Bryson Rohr.  Bryson is the son of Niki Rohr, a Paraeducator at Nike Elementary. Bryson plans to attend Pittsburg State University and will major in Business.

The sixth recipient is Nikayla Kussatz. Nikayla is the daughter of Cheryl Kussatz, a Building Secretary at Pioneer Ridge Middle School. Nikayla plans to attend Allen County Community College majoring in Pre-Medicine.

The seventh recipient is Jazz Davis. Jazz is the son of Stephanie and stepfather, Terry Zerr. Jazz's mother is a Paraeducator at Pioneer Ridge Middle School and steo father is a teacher at GEHS. Jazz plans to attend U.M.K.C. majoring in Computer Science.
